Avignon is served by two train stations:
–Avignon’s Central train station lies opposite the city walls and is around a 15 minutes walk from our house.
–Avignon’s TGV station lies around 6 km from the city and is connected to the Central train station via “La Virgule”, which is a quick 4 minutes journey. Otherwise, taxis will charge a fare of around €20 to the city centre from the TGV station.
–Direct TGV services link Avignon to Paris (in 2¾ hours), Marne la Vallée, Roissy, Charles de Gaulle Airport, Lille, Nantes, Rouen, Metz, Montpellier, Rennes and Toulouse.
Direct TGV services also link with Brussels and Geneva throughout the year and with London during summer.

–Avignon Airport lies 10km from the city centre and is served by direct flights from Birmingham and Southampton airports.
–Marseille International Airport is about 60 minutes by car from Avignon and is also served by regular direct rail connections from Marseille Provence to Avignon’s Central train station.
–Nimes Airport is served by direct flights from Brussels Charleroi, Liverpool and London Luton airports. The airport is about 50 minutes by car from Avignon and is again served by regular direct rail connections from Nîmes to Avignon’s Central train station.
–Montpellier Airport is about an hour’s drive from Avignon and is served by regular direct rail connections from Montpellier to Avignon’s Central train station.
–Nice International Airport is around 290km from Avignon and is served by regular TGV connections to Avignon.
Avignon is a medieval town with very narrow streets. If you decide to rent a car, it will be best to choose a small car and follow the directions sent before your arrival.
Do not follow GPS as the streets are often very narrow and inaccessible.
